A record 27 Countries took part in a large Arena in Lublin Poland organised by the Polish
Snooker Association for the European Championship 2008.

Following the World Professional Snooker Championship in Sheffield this week, it was back to grass roots
where the last 8 players left in, were competing for the Welsh Amateur title of Wales.

With only the Welsh Championship left on the calendar it was somewhat disappointing entry to the last
Ranking Event of the season. Quite a number of players didn’t turn up which jeopardised their chances to
get into the Welsh Team for the Home Internationals.

Llanelli’s Jamie Clarke won the Under 16’s Championship at the Matchroom Llanelli beating Jak Jones
(Cross Keys) in the final 3-0.

Following their success in the European Over 40’s Championship in Glasgow last week, Darren Morgan
and Phil Williams complimented their win by reaching the Quarter Finals of the Welsh Championship.

South Wales once again proved too strong for their rivals North Wales at the weekend at Pontardawe's Art Centre.

Duane Jones one of the up and coming youngsters in Wales won the Under 16’s Welsh Ranking Event 3
at Morriston Snooker Club Swansea at the week-end. He beat Swansea’s Kieran Phelps in the final by 3-1.

The Welsh Championship was played down to the last 16 in two venues this week-end when as
expected the seeded players came through from the two venues.

The former Welsh Champion Andrew Pagett (Blackwood) won the Senior Ranking Event 2 in Riley’s
Newport yesterday when he beat former Pro Jamie Jones.

A total of 56 Players contested the Senior Ranking Event 2 which was played in 3 venues over the week-end.

A good entry of 40 players contested this event and some fine snooker was played
hroughout the day. Eventually though it was Jamie Jones who emerged the winner.

From a disappointing entry of only 24 players, two of the most promising players
Jamie Clarke and Kieran Elliot from Llanelli in West Wales contested the final
of the Under 14’s Ranking Event 2.

Showing maturity beyond his age young 14yr old Duane Jones won the first of the season at
Whitez Snooker Club Swansea. In the Final he beat Llanelli’s Jamie Clarke by 3-1.

The first round of the Welsh Championship took place at the week-end in the above venues
and despite a low entry of only 48 players from South Wales it incorporates a mixture of
five former Pros, two previous Welsh Champions.

Recently come of age Phil Williams (Llanelli) making his debut in the Over 40’s won the
first Ranking Event of the season when he beat Darren Morgan the ex pro in the final by 3-0.

From an entry of approx 38 player’s Jordan Steins (Morriston) a very much improved player came
out the winner of the first Under 21’s Ranking Event.

This first event of the new season saw a slightly disappointing entry of 22 players. Many of the
leading players from last season having now gone up to Under 16 level.

Wales’s Masters Team were crowned the Home International Champions in the Over 40’s section.

Wales came out the victors once again in the annual Celtic Challenge
layed in Carlow Ireland on the week-end. Against a below strength
Irish side Wales won by the overall margin of 76 frames to 44
frames.

W.B.S.A. Committee members, Former professionals and Welsh internationals, John Dobson
and Mark Tucker proved they can still play a bit as they took the title of Welsh snooker
pairs champions at Aberaman Cue Club.

he won the European Under 19 Championship in Prestatyn North Wales.
